Zambia is currently undergoing economic reforms under the ‘Zambia Plus’ Programme in order to restore the economy and some of these reforms include the removal of energy subsidies, which have the potential to increase the burden on the already strained budget of several Zambians. After the 2017 budget was announced the Government emphasized its willingness to work with civil society in order to devise strategies to effectively deliver services to the vulnerable poor. However, there is concern at the immediate cost implications of social security programmes, and there is an immediate danger that the social support services may not be adequately delivered, and in extreme cases, scaled down to reduce the budget deficit.
It is for this reason that the Economics Association of Zambia will hold a public discussion on the topic: Economic Reform with Human Face: Is Social Protection under Threat? The event will take place on Thursday 27th July 2017 at Intercontinental Hotel, from 18:00hrs to 20:00hrs.
You are kindly invited to attend this very important discussion.
See attached Programme for the event.
Looking forward to seeing you there.by
